All the native Muslims of North Arcot district speak Urdu without any exception
Muslims have established many elementary, higher secondary and matriculation schools and colleges for men and women where Urdu is taught.
I can say with confidence that Urdu is spreading in North Arcot district when even in places like Delhi, Lucknow, Kanpur, etc. there is decrease in the interest for Urdu among people. I have seen North Indian Muslims writing and receiving letters in Hindi (among family members)But I have not seen any Muslim in North Arcot district writing letters in Hindi to their families. They mostly write in Urdu. Their Urdu language is also not as bad as portrayed in the article under reference. Of course there may be some who talk like that. The dialect quoted by the writer is also followed by the people of Andhra Pradesh in villages.
I don't think the businessmen who come to South India do not know " Nakko……Nakko…..uththa Nakko " This type is spoken even in North India. I have seen many North Indians using words like " Nakko, uththa, kiththa, etc. After all Urdu is a mixture of different languages - Urdu aek lashkari aur jadeed zuban hai. Hindi aur Urdu zubanein mukhtalif tareekhay say boli jati hein. Maslan Adwaniji aur Mayawatiji ki bhashaon mein zameen aasman ka faraq hai.
There are many Urdu writers and poets in the North Arcot district and Tamil nadu who are well known in the circle of the Urdu speaking people everywhere in the country.
Do the North Indian Muslims speak chaste Urdu? My feeling is that their language is either Hindi or Hindustani. Urdu is alive in Arabic institutions like Darul Uloom, Deoband and Nadwathul Ulema, Lucknow. We salute them for their services.
Finally as the article under reference is about North Arcot Muslims, I would like to say that Muslims are courteous here and their language is soft, sweet and disciplined by and large. There is communal harmony here. They are in good terms with other religious people and all live like brothers here.
Let it be clear to all that in every masjid in the North Arcot district Jumma sermons are given in chaste Urdu by learned scholars most of whom now hail from the same district.
